"Pulp Fiction" actor Stephen Hibbert dies

Actor and writer Stephen Hibbert, best known for his role as The Gimp in the film Pulp Fiction, has died at the age of 68.

According to TMZ, he died of a heart attack in Denver, Colorado, on Monday.

In a statement to the media, his children — Greg, Ronnie and Rosalind — said:
“Our father, Stephen Hibbert, passed away unexpectedly this week. His life was filled with love and dedication to the arts and family. He will be missed by many.”

Hibbert was best known for his role as The Gimp in the 1994 classic film Pulp Fiction, directed by Quentin Tarantino and starring John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson and Uma Thurman. His character had no dialogue and was clad in a leather suit, while having a memorable scene with the character played by Bruce Willis.

Born in Fleetwood, England, Hibbert also worked as a writer for several television shows in the 1990s, including Late Night with David Letterman, MADtv and Boy Meets World.

In a 2024 interview, Hibbert revealed that he met Quentin Tarantino at the improvisational theater The Groundlings Theater. Since his character in the film had no dialogue and was masked, he said he got the role without speaking at all.

“Quentin and I played a 'master and slave' scenario in front of the casting director. He would give me orders around the office and I would bow down. It was as if my whole working life had prepared me for an audition like this,” he recalled.

Hibbert also revealed that after the film's release, he received dozens of calls from people wanting to meet him after his performance.
