Venezuela suspends air traffic with Colombia

Venezuela's Justice Minister, Diosdado Cabello, announced today the suspension of air traffic between that country and Colombia, citing the risk of a possible conspiracy ahead of local and parliamentary elections scheduled for May 25.
He added at the press conference that this decision was made due to the existence of information indicating that some travelers could enter Venezuela, posing as tourists, with the aim of carrying out attacks in that country, the Eluniversal portal reported.
"We are immediately suspending all air traffic between Colombia and Venezuela due to such information. We have already arrested 38 people for the existence of a conspiracy," Cabello said.
He added that the purpose of these actions is to hinder the conduct of the elections and that the government has taken measures to ensure calm during election day.
According to the minister, the plot is linked to drug trafficking networks in Colombia. Cabello claims that figures such as former Colombian presidents Alvaro Uribe and Ivan Duque are linked to these organizations.
"They want violence in our country, but we will not allow it. They will face a decisive and strong response," Cabello said.
He added that a group of individuals with explosives, whose aim was to attack embassies, hospitals and government officials, had already been arrested.
