Festive table 'in the stratosphere'/ Citizens: We can't buy

Just a few days before New Year's Eve, the prices of food, livestock, and fruit and vegetable products have increased significantly, making it increasingly difficult for families to prepare the festive table.

In rural and urban markets throughout the Berat region, prices have increased for almost every product, which has directly impacted the reduction of purchasing power. Citizens say they are forced to limit purchases, focusing only on the most basic products.

"We can't buy anything, we are very poor. With these prices, we will barely be able to buy a chicken," the citizens say.

According to residents, fruits and vegetables are among the products that have seen the greatest price increases, while even traditional holiday products, such as turkey and guinea fowl, have become unaffordable for many families.

The tradition of filling tables for New Year's Eve seems to be fading from year to year. There is no shortage of goods on the market, but what is missing are incomes, which do not keep pace with rising prices.

Citizens feel vulnerable in the face of this situation, as the holidays approach and expenses increase. They say they are poorer than a year ago and that current prices are unaffordable.

"With the income we have, we cannot buy everything a family needs for the holiday. The price of turkey and guinea fowl has increased significantly. Our tables will be empty this year, poverty is great," the citizens tell Syri TV.

On the other hand, traders say that they are not the cause of the price increase, but the market and the supply chain. According to them, high prices have significantly reduced sales and purchasing power.

The same concern is shared by poultry farmers, who emphasize that, even with current prices, they are unable to cover production costs, as the costs of food and inputs have increased, which they say have been made more expensive by the state.

The situation created on New Year's Eve highlights the economic difficulties faced by families, turning the New Year's holiday into a challenge for many of them.
