US declares state of emergency, over 9,000 flights canceled

The United States has declared a state of emergency in New York and New Jersey due to the snowstorm that has swept the country in recent days.
According to foreign media, the storm has caused traffic disruptions on one of the busiest weekends of the year, causing over 9,000 flights to be canceled.
"The bad weather has already caused significant disruption for those travelling for the Christmas holidays, with at least 9,000 flights cancelled or delayed as of Friday evening ," according to flight tracking service FlightAware.
John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International and LaGuardia airports have posted snow alerts on social media warning that the weather could cause further flight disruptions.
