Along with him, the traditional candidate for more than 30 years, Ismail Kadare, the late Luan Starova, a self-translated writer in three languages, and Carmine Abate, a writer of works in contemporary Italian literature.

Skender Gjinushi's letter

I have the honor to present below the nomination for the Nobel Prize in Literature. I propose the Albanian writer Fatos Kongoli, one of the most prominent authors of contemporary Albanian literature, published and appreciated in our country and abroad. He studied and graduated in mathematics, but from the beginning of his career he worked as an editor and literary journalist. And in a very short time he devoted his energies entirely to creative work, first as a distinguished storyteller and throughout the years of his life as a novelist. Kongoli is the author of 16 novels, many of which have been translated and published in several languages (in France, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Germany, Great Britain, Spain, Japan, Poland, Slovakia, Serbia and in Esperanto). Many of his novels have been reprinted.

The work of Fatos Kongoli immediately attracted the attention and emotions of Albanian and foreign readers, because it reflected the drama of the individual in the period of dictatorship and transition. The citizen's confrontation with the absurdity of life, his internal dramas, penetration into the psyche of oppressed people, the creation of the anti-hero, contrary to the concept of socialist realism, etc., represent the main creative subjects of Kongol. The axis of his entire work is the existential crisis of Albanians in the period of dictatorship and transition, which is still presented as insurmountable.

Human paradoxes, the irony of past reality and absurd situations, the aim to free the traumatized man from the identity crisis, do not turn the Kongoli novelist into a crude writer; on the contrary, with a deep humanistic feeling, his work emphasizes that human salvation comes from human love. The theme of the absurd in most of his novels, as well as the insight into the hidden part of the human soul, has led the French press to describe him as a mixture of Beckett and Dostoyevsky. But more obvious is the parallelism of Kongolis characters with the philosophy of the absurd in the work of Albert Camus.

F. Kongoli's novels are a confirmation of modern Albanian prose, which crosses borders, entering the universe of contemporary world literature. For these essential characteristics, Fatos Kongoli has been repeatedly awarded several prestigious national and international awards, such as the Balkanika international award (Sofje-Bulgari, 2002). Holds the title of Grand Master (Tirana 2012) and the title of Knight of the Legion of Honor (Chevalier de Légion d'Honneur, Paris 2010). The President of France said to Congolese: My country deeply appreciates the greatness of your work. Writing literature is an art of suffering and solitude

On the 80th anniversary of Kongoli, a member of the Academy of Sciences, an activity will be organized to celebrate in his honor, by "Toena" Publications and the Academy of Sciences of Albania.
