While judges and prosecutors await their August salaries, following the blocking of the payroll by the State Treasury, Prime Minister Edi Rama has chosen to toughen his tone towards the High Judicial Council and the High Prosecutorial Council.
A few days after the Supreme Court and the Supreme Judicial Council themselves decided on a reference salary increase for magistrates, arguing that the Assembly had not approved the new formula within the specified deadline, the government intervened by not approving the salary transactions of a large part of the justice institutions.
But instead of a debate about salaries, Rama has chosen to target the two bodies that run the judicial system themselves. In front of socialist MPs, he described the KLGJ and the KLP as “the face of the failure of justice reform,” in contrast to the SPAK and the Constitutional Court, which he considered part of the reform’s success.
"And salaries are of course always insufficient for everyone. When it is insufficient for the KLP and KLGJ, imagine the salaries for others. When these two structures that are the face of the failure of the justice reform, if SPAK, the Special Court or some components are the face of success, the KLP and KLGJ are the face of the failure of the justice reform and when these two bodies that are the governance of the judiciary and govern the judiciary, then, because they are governed by old habits and people behind the scenes, have insufficient salaries several times higher than our salaries here, imagine how someone from the administration can say that the salary is sufficient", said Rama.
