The geological phenomenon that will change the planet: Two continents are on a collision course

Australia is moving closer to Asia by seven centimetres every year and experts are talking about a coming "collision" that will change the world.
"Whether we like it or not, the Australian continent will collide with Asia at some point," said Professor Zheng-Xiang Li of Curtin University in Perth, Australia, in 2009.
Australia is moving steadily at a rate of seven centimeters per year, which will lead to its “collision” with Asia in about 20 to 30 million years. This shift seems to have already happened in the past, when it separated from Antarctica 35 million years ago.
Since then, it has remained in motion, at a slow pace, which will eventually bring it "to" the neighboring continent.
Australia sits on the Indo-Australian Plate, the fastest-moving plate on Earth. According to scientists, its upcoming "collision" with Asia will have a significant impact on the future of the planet, as has already happened on other occasions in history.
It should also be noted that this movement has made GPS data inaccurate, so Australia's coordinates must be officially adjusted by 1.8 meters. This is a problem that will need to be continuously corrected in the coming years.
When the time comes for this collision, scientists say, it won't be "quiet." A new global geological shift will cause an increase in seismic activity, with more frequent earthquakes of potentially greater intensity.
