"Without masks, with our faces", KLA veterans protest in Pristina! Police increase security measures

The Organization of Kosovo Liberation Army War Veterans (OVL-UCK) has called for a nationwide protest in Pristina for today, following the verdict against four former KLA leaders in The Hague.

The protest will start at 12:00 at "Skënderbeu" Square, while OVL-UCK has announced that it will be peaceful.

The call for protest was made a day earlier by Gazmend Syla of OVL-UCK, who said that the decision was made after a meeting of the organization's Steering Council.

" Our protest that is being organized tomorrow is peaceful, non-violent, without masks, with our faces. We have plenty to show, our faces are honest, we don't need to wear masks at the protest ," Syla declared.

OVL-UCK opposes the verdict announced against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selim and Jakup Krasniqi, describing it as unjust.

Syla stated that, according to the organization, this decision attempted to strike a balance between the KLA war and the events of 1998-1999.

" Yesterday, our liberation struggle was condemned and an attempt was made to strike a balance between what happened in our struggle in '98-'99. The KLA was never a criminal enterprise, it was the resistance of our people in the face of expulsion, massacres and the only response of a nation that was condemned to extinction ," said Syla.

The organizations emerging from the war have also announced the creation of a national coordinating council and a platform through which they intend to challenge the verdict until the appeal process is completed.

According to Syla, this initiative aims to involve Kosovo institutions, parliamentary parties, civil society, Albania, Albanians in North Macedonia and the Presheva Valley, as well as the diaspora./Kosovapress
