"The police abused their duty"/ Former RENEA officer: "The Arrows" used violence, the weapons used in the protest can be deadly

Gert Metani, Pedagogue, expert on public safety issues, has commented on the repeated episodes of violence against young people by the police in the protests that have been taking place for 14 days.

In an interview for the show 'Minuta e perë' on News24 with Ola Bruko, he commented on who has the authority to react to the protests. He said, among other things, that the Eagle Forces are not suitable to intervene in such situations.

Among other things, he added that non-lethal weapons should not be used at close range against citizens, as they cause severe damage to the human body, as was the case of Erjon Vishkulli, who suffered severe damage to one eye and is at risk of losing his sight. Metani stressed that the police have abused their duty.

The officers have caused a series of incidents. The FNSH has water cannons, they have shotguns with rubber bullets, they have rubber batons and diving suits, they also have tear gas and pepper spray, which are non-lethal weapons, but when used at close range and on the upper limbs, even these weapons can be deadly or damaging, as in the case of Erjon Vishkulli, who today is in danger of losing his sight.

The distance in the case of Vishkull was under 20 meters and these weapons are highly dangerous when fired at close range. They are weapons that are only used in extreme conditions. But we have seen that the Police had the opportunity to protect themselves and the protesters. The case of Erjon Vishkull came from an attack, which is serious, because the Police cannot attack the protesters. We have seen the Police chasing the protesters even in the alleys. The case of Vishkull came after he was shot at close range and in the upper part of the body.

I have appealed to the Prosecutor's Office not to use these weapons on the upper body, with rubber bullets, which can damage the eye or cause other injuries. The police have at least abused their duty.
