"The wind of change is coming" / Bushati, Spiropali and Veliaj come

The political developments in Serbia and the overthrow of Aleksandar Vučić have also brought significant reactions within the ranks of socialists in Albania. Three figures, once influential in the Socialist Party, Elisa Spiropali, Ditmir Bushati and Erion Veliaj, have welcomed the Serbian student movement, conveying messages that can also be read as indirect criticism of Edi Rama's way of governing.

At a time when the prime minister is facing student protests demanding his removal, the positions of the three socialists take on particular political weight.

Bushati declares that the wind of change cannot be stopped and warns that Vučić's tactics to maintain power have taken root in Albania as well. Spiropali points out the power of citizens to change even the most consolidated governments, while Veliaj hails the victory of the Serbian students, emphasizing that the protests are not the end of the world, but the end of a world. Their stances, in favor of change and the decisive role of students, come at a time when Prime Minister Rama refuses to resign, despite the ongoing protests in the country.

BUSHAT'S REACTION

THE WIND THAT CANNOT BE STOPPED ANYMORE!
Aleksandar Vučić's fourteen-year regime is over. Serbia was liberated, as a result of resistance and widespread political and social mobilization at home and in the diaspora. The student-led movement marks a historic victory. Time will tell whether this mobilization and commitment will translate into lasting political and democratic change.

Vučić’s downfall is not proof that despotic powers can be defeated under normal conditions. When students have to abandon their classrooms to save their country, it does not mean that democracy is functioning properly. On the contrary, it is evidence of how the “stars” must align for a despotic power to be defeated.

The fact that the Student Movement, organized in a disciplined and decentralized manner, without financial resources, without leaders, without external support, without party infrastructure and without political experience, managed to defeat a powerful state machinery based on clientelism will be studied at length in university courses or academic papers.

No one can stop the wind of change that is blowing in our region. A change that comes through solidarity, courage and joint social action. A change that will not be easy, will not come as a gift from abroad, nor the product of a group of people. On the contrary, it will come as a result of joint efforts that require strategy, concentration of forces, ethics, ideas and courage. This change begins with the separation of the state from power, rules of the game and equal political competition, democratic institutions, cutting the ties of organized crime and corruption. The best guarantee for this is civic interaction.

BROTHER'S REACTION

Congratulations to the students for overthrowing the Machiavellian and populist of Belgrade!
Student movements and protests are not the “end of the world”, but the end of “a world”. The sooner we understand this as citizens and policymakers, the better we will be able to respond to the needs and expectations of this generation.
Heartfelt congratulations also to our Albanians in Serbia, who, according to the current projection, increase their representation from one to two mandates. A stronger voice for the rights of Albanians in Serbia!

SPIROPAL REACTION

Serbs overwhelmingly expressed their will for change by voting, thus ending, perhaps forever, the era of Aleksandar Vučić's political dominance.
The elections in Serbia remind us of what we have always known: that people have the opportunity and the power to change the direction of their country, even in the face of powers that claim to be permanent.

I hope that this election will open a new chapter for democracy in Serbia and cooperation in the region.
What happened in Serbia opens up an opportunity for the Balkans that must be judged step by step by the actions and reactions that will follow. As Chancellor Merz emphasized, the stagnation in the normalization of Kosovo-Serbia relations hinders the progress of the region. The new leaders have the opportunity and the possibility to prove that change also includes the elimination of chauvinistic mentality, readiness for dialogue, implementation of agreements, and respect for the sovereignty of Kosovo.

A special congratulations to the Albanian representatives of the Presevo Valley, with the expectation that their parliamentary voice will translate into greater equality, rights and opportunities for Albanians in Serbia.

Albania is interested in a democratic and European Serbia. The proof of this orientation will be the way the new government responds to its citizens and builds relations with its neighbors. With the support of the EU and the US, this opportunity must be turned into concrete steps towards the sustainable peace that we owe to the citizens and the new generation of the Balkans.
