The People's Advocate/ Shabani tells how he obtained the signatures of the

This Tuesday, on the show "Opinion", there was the new People's Advocate, Endrit Shabani.

In this interview, Shabani answered questions ranging from obtaining signatures from DP deputies, the clash with the DP, to the SP votes that elected him to head the Ombudsman institution.

"Yes! As the oldest journalist in Albania, I believe you should know that there is a difference between the Lawyer who is appointed with the signature of the Prime Minister and the one elected by the deputies in Parliament with the votes of the Albanians. I competed, on the list, and the role is not part of the government, it is always oppositional."

-Relatively, it's not said!

Shabani : It monitors the work of the government, protects citizens, denounces corruption, it is the continuation of what I have done as an activist for 20 years.

He was also asked about the Belinda Balluku case and the AKSHI scandal.

Shabani : You have covered my work as an activist and you know well that of the 6 reports I have filed with SPAK, one is for the lady you mentioned. My role is not that of a prosecutor, I am not a prosecutor to investigate, but if officials violate human rights, rest assured that if until yesterday I denounced, this time I have an institution to fight their abuse.

Shabani: I am the same person as yesterday, but I have taken an oath to protect an institution of 70 people and the Albanian citizen.

-A free man who came against this system, now put in a box where he can't have his own opinion?

Shabani : It is a public responsibility for me to represent a constitutional position.

-How did you get the opposition signatures?

Shabani : When the race opened, there was a period when we had established a common group, a broad opposition front. I met MPs from all parties, personally! I contacted them personally! I also met MPs from the SP who are my friends, they told me we could not sign because we had a political decision. The SP did not allow anyone to support it and would judge what the opposition would bring. I collected the signatures, I submitted them.

-You didn't talk to Mr. Berisha?

-When they said we were withdrawing the signatures, didn't you morally feel that you should withdraw?

Shabani: I needed 28 signatures, I collected 35 signatures, precisely thinking that someone would be embarrassed. I waited until December 2, which was the deadline, they withdrew them after the race was over, it was immoral, it was an attempt to remove me from the race. Even legally, there is a principle called legal certainty, an acquired right, procedures cannot be used to take it away from an individual.

Despite the above, Shabani emphasized that “a good part of them congratulated him for the post .” To Fevziu’s skepticism about the way Shabani secured the votes, he responded as follows:

There were five parties in the secret ballot, the SP has only 82 seats in the hall. Clearly the only one missing was the DP. Why it was missing in the hall is a question for the Democratic Party. There is no need for such big conspiracy theories!

So why did Shabani "break" with the DP?

"They have made a decision to withdraw from the process, this is the third time they have done so," he replied.
