Meta reacts after the Albanian Helsinki Committee report: My inhuman treatment, as a terrorist in the "5-star" cage

Former President of the Republic, Ilir Meta, has reacted by thanking the Albanian Helsinki Committee for a report that, according to him, highlights the violations of his rights in the detention cell.
Through a post on his Facebook page, Meta states that the findings of the Albanian Anti-Corruption Commission speak not only of what he calls political persecution against him, but also of a shocking reality that affects all detainees in the country, including the guards who work in scandalous conditions.
" I thank the Albanian Helsinki Committee for the professional and impartial report, which establishes the flagrant violations of my fundamental human and political rights in detention, transformed by Edi Rama into an instrument of human and political punishment and persecution against me."
These true findings of the AHC speak not only about the inhumane standards of my treatment in detention, identical to the standards of my kidnapping, investigation, and trial as a terrorist in the "5-star" cage, but about a shocking reality that affects all detainees in the country, including the guards who work in scandalous conditions.
Detention is only valid for the purpose of investigation in extreme cases, when it is necessary and for a limited time, but it can never be used as an instrument of human and political persecution, as well as the predetermination of guilt by violating the due legal and judicial process, the principle of the presumption of innocence and the equality of the parties in the process.
Respect for the Constitution and the European Convention on Human Rights, fundamental rights and human dignity, the presumption of innocence, equality before the law and of the parties in the process, as well as guaranteeing transparency to the public are not privileges, but legal obligations and minimum standards of a democratic and rule of law state.
"It is imperative that the responsible institutions take immediate measures to implement the general recommendations of the People's Advocate and the Albanian Helsinki Committee for every person deprived of liberty," Meta writes.
