"In 2008 I went on strike for the electoral code, they gave it to Rama"/ Nard Ndoka: The DP has problems with the market!
Invited to Andrea Danglli's "Off the Record" show on A2CNN, PDK Chairman Nard Ndoka spoke about the electoral code, amended in 2008, and how it keeps the government in power. Ndoka also criticized the opposition, considering it not maintaining a "standard" in political behavior.
According to him, the opposition should be the "mirror" of the government, but currently it is not fulfilling this role.
"There is no doubt that we also have a problematic opposition in the institutional aspect. Ultimately, the opposition is an institution, it is the mirror of this majority. When you have a strong and clear mirror, to show you the defects, you are forced to reflect. The mirror today is foggy, it is steamy," said Ndoka.
He stressed that this situation prevents the government from realistically facing its problems.
"Often this also prevents the government from seeing itself realistically. It makes them look the same," he said.
Focusing on the electoral code, Ndoka expressed criticism of the way it has been constructed and approved over the years.
"I see a problematic electoral code. I have the moral right to say it, because in 2008 I went on strike to oppose it. While today, the opposition finds it almost impossible to come to power with this code, even under normal conditions, even with a technical government," he declared.
According to Ndoka, the current system creates vote inequality and is unfair in some districts.
"There is an imbalance in the vote, it is unconstitutional. There are districts like Fier and Vlora where the differences in mandates are very large," he said.
He also criticized the territorial reform, saying it has removed services from citizens and increased administration.
"The territorial reform has been a mess. Instead of reducing the administration, we have doubled it. We are paying more salaries than we are investing and providing services to citizens," said Ndoka.
Finally, he criticized the opposition for lack of a clear position and for secret political agreements.
"The opposition does not have a standard, it does not have a clear draft for the electoral system. They play with words and in the end everything ends with bargaining. The main problem is the morality of Albanian politics, which should function with consensus and not with bargaining," concluded Ndoka.
