Aston Villa dominates final with Freiburg, wins Europa League for first time
Aston Villa have been declared the winners of the Europa League, after convincingly defeating Freiburg 3-0 in the final played in Istanbul.
The English club ended a 44-year wait for a European trophy, restoring glory on a historic night for Villans fans.
The team led by Unai Emery dominated the final from start to finish.
Aston Villa took risks in the opening minutes with Morgan Rogers, while Freiburg failed to capitalize on the few chances they created.
The advantage came in the 41st minute, when Youri Tielemans scored a super goal after a perfect shot from a corner kick.
Just a few minutes later, in first-half stoppage time, Emiliano Buendía provided another magical moment with a fantastic shot into the triangle, bringing the score to 2-0.
In the second half, Aston Villa sealed the triumph with the third goal scored by Rogers, who completed a perfect assist from Buendía and finally dashed the German club's hopes.
For Freiburg, this was the first European final in history, but Julian Schuster's team was unable to withstand the pressure and experience of the English.
This success marks the fifth Europa League trophy in Unai Emery's career, confirming the Spaniard as the most successful coach in the history of this competition.
