Bernardo Silva has hit out at Manchester City critics who have labelled the team as aging this season, saying they "don't understand anything about football" and vowing to make them "take their words back".
The 30-year-old midfielder has said he and his team-mates will prove they are still capable of returning City to the top of football after a disappointing season. The age of Manchester City's squad, with most players in their thirties, has often been cited as a problem this season, especially after a run of just one win in 13 games at the end of 2024.
However, they showed they still have the ability to compete, toppling Bournemouth away on Sunday and securing a place in the FA Cup semi-finals. City fans will be looking with concern at a midfield featuring Ilkay Gundogan (34), Kevin De Bruyne (33) and Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic (both 30), but they proved they still have what it takes to face one of the most physical teams in the Premier League. Bernardo refused to admit that this team has seen its best days when asked after the match.
“This is the opinion of those people who don’t understand the game,” said the Portuguese. He demanded to know who the players in question were, addressing reporters: “Tell me, which player?
