5.1 magnitude earthquake hits Turkey, tremors felt in Syria and Iraq

An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck the Şanlıurfa region of southeastern Turkey on Thursday morning, September 24. According to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), the epicenter of the tremors was at a depth of about 10 kilometers.

The tremors were felt in several surrounding areas, including Diyarbakır, Adıyaman and Gaziantep. It is reported that many citizens took to the streets after the earthquake, while the affected areas are located near the regions that were hit hard by the devastating earthquake of 2023.

According to preliminary data, the tremors were also felt across the border of Turkey, in some areas of Syria and Iraq. So far, there have been no reports of casualties or major damage, while authorities continue to monitor the situation and assess the consequences of the tremors.
