AFP: New protests against the government in Tirana! Clashes between

The international news agency AFP has dedicated a report to the protest held this Saturday in Tirana against the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama. In the article published on October 31, AFP reports that masked protesters threw stones and Molotov cocktails at the police, while the main demand of the demonstrators was the resignation of the head of government.

According to AFP, the protests in Albania have no single organization or leader. They began peacefully in May, fueled by dissatisfaction with perceived corruption. The first spark was opposition to a project to build a luxury hotel in a protected natural area.

The agency notes that since mid-October, the protests have turned into a wave of rallies, some of which have been accompanied by clashes. In addition to accusations of corruption, citizens are also expressing dissatisfaction with problems in the healthcare system and the lack of prospects for young people.

Saturday's protest began peacefully in front of the Ministry of Education, despite the rain. The situation then became tense, as dozens of young people threw stones and Molotov cocktails at police, while also setting fire to garbage bins. According to AFP, police intervened with two water cannons to disperse the protesters.

The article also mentions a statement from an official, according to whom 269 people under the age of 18 were arrested. Meanwhile, AFP reports that on Wednesday the government had tightened measures against the protests, providing for fines of up to 5,500 euros for participants who engage in acts of violence.

AFP's reporting places the October 31 protest in the wake of rallies in recent months, which began with opposition to a construction project and have expanded into protests against Edi Rama's government.
