Atletico Madrid, Simeone equals legend Luis Aragonés

Big words for Argentine coach Diego Simeone. At the Ciutat de València stadium, he recorded his 344th victory in LaLiga, equaling Atletico Madrid legend Luis Aragonés.
An achievement even more remarkable considering that Aragonés had needed 192 more matches than Simeone to reach the same figure. The Argentine coach, who arrived at Atletico in 2011, has changed the history of the Madrid club.
Simeone has only needed the 11th week of this season to register nine wins, equaling another important figure of Aragonés. The latter was the absolute idol of Atletico Madrid fans, while Simeone became such a figure first as a footballer, when he wore the number 14 shirt, and then as a coach.
His statistics are impressive: Simeone has won 61 percent of his matches in LaLiga, the highest percentage among coaches who have managed for such a long period in the Spanish championship.
After the victory, the Argentine coach emphasized that he does not consider this record a personal achievement, but something that should be shared with all those who have been part of his journey.
He particularly recalled the trust that Miguel Ángel Gil gave him, despite Simeone not having much experience in European football at the time, apart from his time at Catania. He also thanked the players for their dedication and belief in his project.
"I'm grateful to everyone. Staying at a club for 15 years is not easy. Without their support I wouldn't have gotten this far," said Simeone.
