"The DP is being rejected just like the government"/ Agim Baçi: Berisha should rethink his position, the opposition should read the reality of the protest

Analyst Agim Baçi, invited to the News24 studio, commented on the latest political developments in the country, the student protest and the stance of the Democratic Party and the opposition. According to him, what happened on the boulevard, where the protesters demanded that the Democrats be present, but not their MPs, was a sad moment for the DP and a signal that its leaders should take seriously.
Baçi expressed concern that citizens' rejection of the opposition seems similar to that of the government, emphasizing that Sali Berisha should review his position within the Democratic Party.
"It's one of those sad days for the DP. I don't know what needs to happen for Mr. Berisha to reconsider his position within the Democratic Party, because it's sad that the big rejection is the same for the opposition and the government ," said Baçi.
He also criticized the way the opposition is approaching the protest, citing the examples of Hungary and Serbia. According to him, in Hungary the opposition parties united around a single figure, while in Serbia the opposition's failure to read political reality has brought serious consequences for its parliamentary representation.
Baçi assessed that the DP and other opposition parties should understand the reasons why some protesters refuse to identify the movement with political representatives. He emphasized that the protest should maintain its popular character and not turn into an opposition-led protest.
" It is a popular protest. If it were to take on the color and become one with the opposition, Mr. Rama would have it much easier to say that it is a normal opposition protest. The opposition has this duty, to stand on the boulevard and demand new elections. It is the mission of the opposition to demand changes to the government on the first day. This way, it would take the weight off those who have built the students and citizens in the protest ," the analyst said.
He also commented on Sali Berisha's statement that, if the opposition wins the elections, the candidacy for prime minister will be decided through a referendum. Baçi called this statement meaningless, arguing that the parliamentary elections also constitute a vote of confidence for the leader of the political force that aims to govern.
"The withdrawal statement is: I will not be a candidate for prime minister at all. What does referendum mean? After the Albanians vote, what referendum will you hold? Elections are also a referendum. If people choose a political force, they have also chosen the leader of that political force as prime minister. You don't have to break them again and hold a referendum. This is a very big joke ," declared Baçi.
According to him, through this statement, Berisha has attempted to soften the debate about the possibility of him being prime minister again, but has not ruled out his candidacy.
The analyst went on to say that the opposition must restore the trust of citizens and become a real alternative to the political rotation. He noted that dissatisfaction with the political class is widespread and that opposition parties must change the way they communicate with citizens.
" There is only one thing: the opposition's return to a very strong debate with the citizens, because the opposition has only one goal, to become that hope, the instrument that the citizens believe that through it the rotation takes place ," said Baçi.
In conclusion, he emphasized that the DP, its allies, and other opposition parties must put aside their clashes, read the political situation, and understand the anger of citizens towards the entire political class.
