Decision enters into force/Medical cannabis is cultivated in 10 areas of Albania

The government's decision to cultivate medical cannabis, with strict safety criteria and conditions, has come into effect. This decision also provides definitions for specific areas and other production measures.
According to the decision, there will be 10 areas in Albania for the cultivation of cannabis for industrial and medical purposes, in 10 regions of the country and a total of 138 plots.
It is learned that there will be one zone each in Shkodër, Vlorë, Fier, Elbasan, Gjirokastra will have 3 zones and Kukës will have 2 more zones, while 1 zone will be divided between Kukës and Dibra.
This decision was agreed upon on January 9, at a meeting of the Council of Ministers, and was signed by Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Rules have also been approved for persons who will apply for cannabis cultivation licenses. Cultivation takes place in open spaces, protected land, greenhouses or plastic tunnels and closed, isolated spaces with artificial lighting. Security is provided by private or state police .
