The 28-year-old Greek, who is accused of stabbing Jani Aliaj to death in Korydallos prison, has given his first testimony before the investigative group.
According to Greek media, in his statement, the 28-year-old claimed to have acted in self-defense.
"If I didn't kill him, he would kill me," he is reported to have said during his confession, adding that the victim was the one who had been paid to kill him, due to a murder that occurred a few months ago in the Agios Panteleimonas area.
The 28-year-old perpetrator has a serious criminal record, accused of two murders.
After giving his testimony, he has returned to his cell and is expected to face trial, risking sentences of up to life imprisonment.

According to authorities, neither the victim nor the perpetrator had previously shown signs of conflict or expressed fear for their lives.
Aliaj was sentenced to life imprisonment by Albanian justice for the murder of Elton Çiço, a crime that occurred on May 1, 2016 in the former Blloku area of Tirana.
The Albanian state had initiated the procedure for his extradition to Albania to serve a life sentence for the murder of Elton Çiço.
