Lawyer explodes bombshell: 2.5 billion lek stolen from Durrës Post Office,

The lawyer for Feta Mataj, the husband of the former director of the Post Office in Durres, has rejected the complaint made by employees of the post office branch that the 44-year-old imposed fines on them.

In a statement to the media after the closing of today's session, when the Durrës judges decided that Mataj be kept in prison until the investigation is completed, lawyer Ilia Ilia rejected the charges brought against his client. While raising doubts, he said that the amount stolen from the post office is around 2.5 billion lek and not 69 million, as has been stated so far.

"The administered statements, taken after 6 months, which is the alleged fact, do not prove either physical or psychological violence. There is no misappropriation of property, which is the basic condition for theft. It is said that 5-6 individuals were coerced, who say I heard. Only one witness, Trëndelina Oxhaku, claimed that she was asked by Feta Mataj to hand over 330 thousand old lekë," said lawyer Ilia Ilia.

Further, the lawyer raised doubts with his statement, saying that the truth of the theft of millions of lek from the Post Office is being hidden by some people who, according to him, have manipulated the finances of the Post Office.

"This political entourage, which has managed the finances of the post office, is interested in preventing the truth from coming out. The moment this entourage, which has manipulated the finances of the Durrës post office, became aware of the fact that Elisabeta Mataj was elected director outside the group's interests, they began the fight against her with an anonymous denunciation."

Further, Ilia claims that the amount stolen from the post office is much greater than 69 million lek.

"We are dealing with a monstrous theft. For years, this group has held the Durrës Post Office hostage by acting as the owner of its finances. So far, the financial hole of the theft of public property has reached about 2.5 billion lek out of the 690 million claimed."
