Road in Pogradec damaged, residents risk isolation

The village of Rëmenj in the Municipality of Pogradec was one of the residential areas most affected by the December rainfall last year.

As a result, the damage caused to this village was very extensive. In addition to dozens of families whose homes were flooded, damage from the numerous flows of the village stream was also caused to the road infrastructure.

In the upper part of the village, in at least two areas, there have been landslides of retaining walls and cracks in the road surface, which even today remain an open danger for the residents of this neighborhood and vehicles.

The situation has also been denounced by Democratic Party MP Ledina Alolli, who, after seeing the damaged areas up close, called for local and central institutions to take immediate measures to intervene in the area. She also appealed for the justice institution to launch investigations into what Alolli called the open abuse of funds and the poor investment made in the area.

Alolli was also accompanied in this denunciation by the head of the Pogradec branch of the Democratic Party of Macedonia, Oligert Muçllari, who accused the Pogradec Municipality of poor investments that this institution has made in many areas of its territory.

MP Alolli concluded by saying that all residents of this neighborhood of the village of Rëmenj risk being isolated from the rest of the village as the rubble is extremely dangerous.

Meanwhile, in a reaction earlier in the day from the Municipality of Pogradec, it was stated that the company that carried out the works in this neighborhood will intervene with provisional rehabilitation works to avoid risks, while adding that two projects have been sent to the Ministry of Agriculture for the rehabilitation of the embankments of the Rëmenj and Vërdovë rivers, where in addition to the riverbed, in the projects that are expected to be financed by this ministry, works are also foreseen to intervene in the reconstruction of the retaining walls that have collapsed as a result of river flows. With these investments that are expected to be carried out, the local institution guarantees that a long-standing problem with the risk that the two rivers pose every time in cases of intense rainfall will be solved. /A2 CNN
