France suspends additional checks at some border points, aims to avoid kilometer-long queues

French authorities have suspended additional checks at the town of Dover, on the border with the United Kingdom, after travelers to the port faced long queues.
This decision is also aimed at reducing waiting times for tourists, following reports of problems caused by the new border control system.
A statement from the port administration says the decision was made after border authorities were notified of the "critical situation."
According to the BBC, biometric checks at EU borders, known as the new Entry/Exit System (EES), will require British travelers to have their photos and fingerprints taken to enter France.
At Dover, where passengers pass through French controls before boarding ships to cross the English Channel, authorities had not yet fully activated the systems that collect biometric data under the EES.
