Germany on the brink of crisis! Gas reserves fall to historic low

Germany is facing an unusual energy situation, as gas storage levels have fallen to the lowest point recorded for this time of year.

According to public broadcaster ZDF, citing industry experts, stocks are depleting rapidly due to the severe cold wave that hit the country in late December.

Official data shows that gas deposits are only about 50% full, while a year ago they were about 77%.

In the past four weeks, levels have fallen by 13%, according to the organization Gas Infrastructure Europe. If withdrawals continue at the same pace, experts warn that by March deposits could fall to just 5%.

"The situation is almost as dangerous as it was at the beginning of 2022," said Stefan Dohler, head of the EWE company, warning that reserves may not last until the end of the heating season.
