Earthquake in Italian football, president of the Referees Association suspended

Italian football is in chaos after it was learned that the National Federal Court has sanctioned the president of the Italian Referees Association (AIA), Antonio Zappi, with a 13-month suspension. This was what the federal sports prosecutor had requested and his request was fully approved by the sports court.

The prosecutor had filed a complaint with the sports court in Italy against Zappi, accusing him of inciting the former heads of departments for Serie C and D, Maurizio Ciampi and Alessandro Picci, to resign from their respective positions, as happened, with Orsato and Braski respectively taking their positions.

The same court also sanctioned Emanuele Markezi, a member of the AIA National Committee, with a 2-month ban. He was accused of manipulating the minutes to remove any reference to Zapi's intervention in the resignations of Champi and Pici.
