"He approached agents armed," ICE officers shoot dead 51-year-old in Minneapolis

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers shot and killed a man in Minneapolis. The 51-year-old died from his injuries, according to hospital records obtained by The Associated Press.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced shortly after the shooting that ICE officers had shot a person Saturday as part of an intensified crackdown on immigrants. The exact circumstances of the incident were unclear.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin told the AP that the person shot was carrying a firearm with two magazines. The situation is still evolving. The department also released a photo of a handgun reportedly found on the deceased.

In many cities, opponents are organizing against Trump's deportation policies and ICE operations.

Critics of Trump's security and immigration policies sometimes draw comparisons to 1930s Germany, talking about the "Gestapo" and "Nazi methods."

US President Donald Trump has commented on his TruthSocial platform, attacking the mayor and governor of Minnesota. “The mayor and governor are fomenting a rebellion with their smug, dangerous and arrogant rhetoric!” the Republican wrote on TruthSocial.

Referring to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Trump also wrote: "LET OUR ICE PATRIOTS DO THEIR JOB!"

The 37-year-old American citizen killed by a Border Patrol agent was identified as Alex Pretti, according to AFGE Professional Local 3669, which represents professional employees affiliated with the Minneapolis VA Healthcare System.

"A member of our union lost his life today. Our hearts are heavy and we are deeply connected by this tragedy that has befallen one of our own," the union said.

On January 7, ICE officers shot and killed Renée Good in her car, also in Minneapolis. The incident sparked widespread outrage and protests.

The government described the shooting as self-defense, while Democrats and protesters criticized the excessive use of force and the lack of transparency in the investigation.
