Trump's Gaza peace plan, Witkoff: First phase of talks has progressed, consultations will continue

"Progress has been made in implementing the plan for the Gaza Strip presented by US President Donald Trump," said White House special envoy Steve Witkoff.
He stated that the first phase of talks has progressed, which includes expanding humanitarian aid, returning hostages, withdrawing forces from some areas, and reducing hostilities.
Witkoff's statement came a day after talks with representatives of Egypt, Qatar and Turkey. Consultations will continue in the coming weeks to move forward with the implementation of the second phase, he continued.
The second phase envisages the disarmament of Hamas, something the Palestinian movement is not discussing, the progressive withdrawal of Israeli armed forces from the entire Palestinian enclave, the creation of a transitional authority and the deployment of an international stabilization force.
Israel says it is still waiting for the return of the last remaining hostages in the Gaza Strip before agreeing to formally begin talks on the second phase of the plan.
