Rutte in the Balkans – believes in US commitment to NATO

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte is expected to visit Kosovo on Tuesday (11.03), while he will be in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday (10.03). This is Mark Rutte's first visit to Kosovo since taking up the post of NATO chief.
According to the Alliance's announcement, Mark Rutte, during this visit to Bosnia and Kosovo, is accompanied by his deputy, Radmila Shekerinska, as well as by the ambassadors of NATO member countries.
Before this visit, the NATO chief stated that "stability in Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia is an important issue", adding that he "sees no reason to doubt whether there will be any significant change in the United States' commitment to the North Atlantic Alliance, NATO".
According to the NATO announcement, during the visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mark Rutte will meet with high-level officials, including the Chairman and members of the Presidency, the President of the Council of Ministers, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Defense, and the Acting Minister of Security.
The NATO chief's visit to Bosnia takes place during a period of tension in this country, after the President of the Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, on March 5 signed decrees declaring unconstitutional laws adopted in the Assembly of this entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
These laws prohibit the activities of the Court and Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), and the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina (VSTS). This decision has caused widespread international reactions.
After Bosnia and Herzegovina, NATO chief Mark Rutte is visiting Kosovo. In Pristina, according to a statement from his office, he will hold bilateral meetings with President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
Rutte will also meet the head of the EU Office in Kosovo, Ambassador Aivo Orav, the head of the EULEX mission, the commander of KFOR, General Giovanni Barbano, the head of UNMIK and the head of the OSCE mission.
The visit of the NATO Secretary General to Kosovo, who is accompanied by the ambassadors of NATO member countries, occurs just a few days after the end of the election process and in anticipation of the formation of the country's new government.
