Violated Ukrainian airspace? Britain denies it, alert for Russian drones near

Sources from the British Ministry of Defense have denied reports that British fighter jets have entered Ukrainian airspace to shoot down Russian drones, stressing that such an action would constitute a significant escalation of the conflict with Russia.

According to officials, the Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon jets operated strictly within Romanian airspace, in accordance with national and NATO regulations. Romanian authorities confirmed that the jets took off at around 2:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, following alerts of drone threats near the border. The pilots established contact with the targets via radar and were authorized to intervene only if the drones violated Romanian airspace — which they did not.

The Romanian Defense Ministry spokesman said the mission remained within the framework of surveillance, prevention and response readiness, without direct engagement.
Ground-based radar systems tracked several aerial targets approaching the area near the town of Reni, where explosions were subsequently reported. Contact with the drones was lost, and about 30 minutes later, residents of Galați reported the fall of an object in the suburbs via the emergency number 112. According to authorities, the allied aircraft maintained a defensive posture, contributing to increasing situational awareness and protecting NATO airspace, without being directly involved in combat operations over Ukrainian territory.
