Uproar in the US Department of Health, top scientist resigns after Kennedy takes office

The top scientist and head of the United States vaccine regulator, Dr. Peter Marx, has resigned, denouncing the unscientific positions of the new Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert Kennedy Jr.
In a letter, Dr. Marks accuses Kennedy of spreading misinformation and lies, which he described as “irresponsible, harmful to public health, and a clear threat to the country’s national security.”
"If Peter Marx is not willing to support restoring science to its gold standard and promote radical transparency, then he has no place at the FDA under Secretary Kennedy's strong leadership ," a Department of Health spokesman said.
Dr. Marx had played a central role in the approval of the first COVID-19 vaccines in 2020. Head of the FDA's Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research since 2016, he was responsible for the safety and effectiveness of vaccines and other biologic drugs.
"Kennedy doesn't want the truth, he wants confirmation of his lies ," Marx said.
In his resignation letter, Dr. Marx noted that he was initially willing to work with the new secretary to answer questions about vaccine safety and increase transparency. However, he said, “it has become clear that truth and transparency are not what he seeks, but rather subservient confirmation of his misinformation and lies.”
