Trump announced additional tariffs, Macron: Unacceptable! No threat can affect

French President Emmanuel Macron has reacted after Donald Trump's statement on imposing 10 percent customs tariffs on eight European countries because of Greenland, including France.

He has made a reaction on social networks, and responding to the US president, said that no form of intimidation or threat will affect France's position on Greenland, Ukraine or other regions of the world facing similar challenges.

He described the threats to impose tariffs as unacceptable, underlining that they have no place in this context. As he stressed, if these threats are confirmed, Europeans will respond in a unified and coordinated manner, stating that “we will make sure that European sovereignty is respected.”

"No intimidation or threats can sway us, neither in Ukraine, nor in Greenland, nor anywhere else in the world, when we face such situations. Threats of tariffs are unacceptable and have no place in this context. Europeans will respond to them in a united and coordinated manner if they are confirmed."

France is committed to the sovereignty and independence of nations, in Europe and elsewhere. These principles guide our choices. They are the basis of our commitment to the United Nations and its Charter. In this spirit, we support and will continue to support Ukraine, and we have built a coalition of the willing for a strong and lasting peace, to defend these principles and our security.

In this spirit, we have also decided to join the exercise organized by Denmark in Greenland. We take this responsibility, also because it is about security in the Arctic and on the edges of our Europe. No intimidation or threats can affect us, neither in Ukraine, nor in Greenland, nor anywhere else in the world, when we face such situations. Threats of tariffs are unacceptable and have no place in this context. Europeans will respond to them in a united and coordinated manner if they are confirmed. We will know how to defend European sovereignty. In this spirit, I will hold talks with our European partners.

Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Finland are the eight countries that Donald Trump announced 10% tariffs on due to their positions on Greenland, the Arctic island that the US president wants to take possession of. The tariffs will take effect on February 1. Trump warned that these tariffs will increase to 25% on June 1 if an agreement is not reached by then to make the island part of the US.
