Colombia breaks diplomatic relations with Iran and sides with the US

The Colombian government has made the decision to sever diplomatic relations with Iran, openly aligning itself with the foreign policy of its main strategic ally, the United States.
In an official statement, Colombian authorities said the move was taken due to serious concerns related to national and hemispheric security. Key factors cited include Tehran's alleged links to international terrorist and narcoterrorist groups, as well as its ongoing human rights violations.
The decision to sever relations was formalized on September 19, while the Colombian Foreign Ministry clarified in an official announcement that consular relations between the two countries will continue to be maintained.
According to Colombian diplomacy, the verified attacks against states that are not part of the conflict in the Middle East, the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, and the obstruction of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)'s efforts to verify the scope of Iran's nuclear program also weighed in making this decision. These developments, according to official Bogota, have definitively undermined trust in the government of the Islamic Republic.
