66-year-old woman in Germany gives birth to tenth child

The 66-year-old director of a German museum has given birth to her tenth child. Alexandra Hildebrandt, head of the private Checkpoint Charlie museum in central Berlin, confirmed to DPA today that her son was born by caesarean section at the Virchow Clinic of the Charité hospital.
The baby was reportedly born last Wednesday, with Hildebrandt praising the Charité staff for their work.
Hildebrandt told the Bild newspaper that she has had eight children, including twins, since she turned 53.
She also has two adult children.
"Eight of the children were born by cesarean section," she said.
Hildebrandt talked about having a large family and said he wanted to encourage people to have more children.
The 66-year-old said she did not use reproductive technology to conceive the child.
"I eat very healthy, I swim regularly for an hour, I walk for two hours, I don't smoke or drink alcohol and I have never used contraceptives," she told Bild.
Doctor Wolfgang Henrich said Hildebrandt is the oldest pregnant woman he has cared for, as he has performed all eight caesarean sections.
"It was a largely uncomplicated pregnancy," he said.
Henrich, who has worked as a gynecologist since 1990, said it was a miracle that the procedure went so well.
Fertility generally declines rapidly for women over the age of 40.
"The odds of giving birth to a healthy child through natural conception as a 40-year-old are in the single-digit percentage range, even with good health," Henrich said.
