Balluku: We will soon present the National Railway project

Deputy Prime Minister, Belinda Balluku, also Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, stated today that the agreement signed today with the European Investment Bank for the financing of the Durrës-Rrogozhina railway project sets another milestone in the development of railway transport.
In a statement to the media, after signing the agreement in Tirana with the director of the European Investment Bank, Lionel Rapaille, Balluku assessed that the construction of the Durrës - Rrogozhina railway, part of Corridor VIII, will also unite and interconnect the highways or the energy highway connecting Albania with North Macedonia.
"All these components are completing a puzzle of rail transport, one of the most important transports for the EU, given that it offers financial efficiency for every citizen and on the other hand is environmentally friendly," declared Balluku.
The Deputy Prime Minister informed that the Tirana-Durres railway segment is also in the final stages of construction and will be delivered within this year, leaving until 2026 the completion of other components, its electrification and the creation of the stock of wagons and locomotives that will operate.
At the same time, he informed that during 2025, the construction of the Vorë-Hani i Hotit railway, one of the most important connecting segments of the region, will begin.
This segment, according to her, ends in 2029.
Balluku said that the National Railway project will be presented very soon.
"In the coming days we will also have a presentation of the national project, of great interest for the economic development of Albania and Kosovo. It is about the National Railway that will be presented in Shkodra, where there will also be a station from Shkodra to Gjakova," declared Balluku.
Within the year, she added, we will have a complete project for the Durrës-Rrogozhinë railway segment, which is expected to be delivered as a work in 2028.
This segment, Balluku noted, will be followed by the Rrogozhina-Pogradec segment, which will be delivered in 2029.
"These national and regional strategic projects bring Albania even closer to its dream of the European Union," declared the Deputy Prime Minister.
The signing of the agreement for the Durrës-Rrogozhina railway project constitutes another important step towards the modernization of our infrastructure.
The Durrës-Rrogozhina railway is part of Corridor VIII and one of the most important parts because Rrogozhina is a dividing point for railway traffic. It has a special importance as a connecting node.
The agreement provides for a 62 million euro grant for Albania from the European Commission.
The total investment value is 120.5 million euros.
Corridor VIII, 172 km long, is a corridor that does not only serve Albania. It is an energy and infrastructure corridor that connects Italy, Albania, North Macedonia and ends in Bulgaria.
