Euro-Atlantic List/ Surprise in Shkodra, Ramiz Çobaj enters the race

Former MP and former chairman of the Democratic Party of Shkodra, Ramiz Çobaj, has officially announced his candidacy for the May 11 elections with the Euro-Atlantic Coalition, led by Lulzim Basha. In a post on social media, he emphasizes that his decision to run is motivated by respect for the free vote and opposition to closed lists.
"I have been and am in favor of MPs being elected by the electorate and not appointed by party leaders," says Çobaj, underlining that his political commitment will be in the service of the opposition and the hope for change on May 11.
He also calls for unity in the opposition, despite current positions, emphasizing the importance of a real alternative for Albanian citizens.
The Euro-Atlantic Coalition will compete in the May 11 elections with open lists, giving citizens the opportunity to directly elect their representatives.
Ramiz Çobaj's post:
Dear friends!
I would like to inform you that I have accepted the offer to run as a deputy for the "Euro-Atlantic Coalition" (KEA) entity in the
SHKODER region.
I made the decision to move from the "big house" to the "small house" of the Democrats not for any resentment, but simply to respect the free vote of free people.
The closing of the lists was the main and only reason that naturally made me go towards this decision. I have been and am a partisan that deputies be elected by the electorate and not appointed by party leaders.
If I manage to get the mandate of the deputy, this mandate will be in function and in the service of the opposition and only the current opposition, but which I hope will become a position after May 11.
I wish success to all Democrats, regardless of their current positioning!
Success to the entire Albanian opposition on May 11!
