The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has commented on the protest called by the Democratic Party against Prime Minister Edi Rama's decision to close TikTok, calling the social network a wonderful platform.
"Edi Rama's act of shutting down Tik Tok is identical to the decision of the Habtullah of Kabul and the Ayatollah of Tehran to shut down this wonderful platform," he said.
Berisha declared that today's protest is the most important in the lives of young people for freedom of speech.
"Therefore, I congratulate them and guarantee that, on May 12, TikTok will be released immediately," said the leading democrat.
Sali Berisha: Edi Rama's act to close Tik Tok is identical to the decision of the Habtullah of Kabul and the Ayatollah of Tehran to close this wonderful platform.
Edi Rama has another major problem with this stance.
I invite Albanians not to forget that in August 1988, Kristaq Rama, then deputy to Nexhmije Hoxha and a leading member of the presidium of the People's Assembly, i.e. Ramiz Ali, signed the hanging of the poet Havzi Nela for his verses dedicated to free speech and freedom of thought.
With his act, after 37 years against Tik Tok, Edi Rama proves that if the old laws were in place, he would not hesitate to hang himself on a rope like his, just like he is doing with Tik Tok, all those who would criticize him and have different opinions.
But today young people are having a big protest, and this is the most important protest of their lives for freedom of speech.
So I congratulate them and guarantee that, on May 12th, Tik Tok will be released immediately.
I invite internet and mobile phone companies not to become co-authors of this mega-censorship that equates Albania with Afghanistan and Tehran.
So they should make every effort to ensure that the tools that Edi Rama bought to block Tik Tok do not work.
