SPAK requested a 5-year prison sentence, Alqi Bllako in court: I declare myself innocent

The Special Prosecution Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime has requested a sentence of 5 years and 4 months in prison for the former Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment, Alqi Bllako, in connection with the Tirana incinerator case. Taking advantage of the shortened trial, his final sentence could be reduced to 3 years and 4 months in prison.
During the hearing at the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime, Bllako expressed respect for the court and declared himself innocent.
“I respect and appreciate your work, but I declare myself innocent, ” Bllako said, denying the charges against him. He argued that, in his capacity as secretary general of the Ministry of Environment, he had no influence or responsibility in the concession awarding process.
Bllako is accused by SPAK of passive corruption in two cases. According to the prosecution, he has benefited from an amount of 120 thousand euros from the company of businessman Klodian Zoto to support his father's brewery. SPAK also claims that Bllako influenced the hiring of Klodian Zoto as an external advisor to Vladimir Bezhani, using his connections and influence in decision-making.
The court is expected to announce its decision soon, while the incinerator issue remains one of SPAK's most important files.
