May 11th elections/ Chances of becoming an MP, here are how many safe seats the

2,046 candidates will compete in the May 11 elections, for 140 seats in parliament. The electoral system guarantees 92 safe seats from closed lists for the major parties, while the competition will remain open to all parties and coalitions for the remaining mandates.

The May 11 elections could bring changes to parliament, from the diaspora vote and the entry into the race of several new parties, for which polls indicate significant support.

In 2021, there were only 4 parties that produced results, with the Socialist Party receiving 74 MPs, the Democratic Party 59, the Freedom Party 4, and the Social Democratic Party, 3 MPs.

In these elections, the SP is the only one in the race and, like the Democratic Party, with the votes they have and the current electoral system, they are now guaranteed 92 mandates, or 46 in each wing.

But, with the combined votes of the PL, which this time has in the coalition, the DP is counting on 4 more mandates. Likewise, the PSD will try to maintain the 3 mandates it has, although the electorate may provide more or take them away.

On May 11, the vote in the districts will make the difference, because the electoral code sets a vote threshold, which means that the race will practically be open for at least 41 mandates, for which 2,046 candidates in 11 parties and coalitions will compete./ Euronews
