No criticism! Why is the Netflix movie 'Adolescence' receiving so much

Viewers and critics have heaped praise on the Netflix drama 'Adolescence', with many calling it a landmark television show.

The four-part British series was released last week and is the most-watched show on the platform worldwide over the weekend.

Tom Peck described it as "utter perfection", a view echoed by Lucy Mangan of the Guardian, who said it was "the closest thing to television perfection in decades". American director Paul Feig called the first episode "one of the best hours of television I've ever seen", to Jeremy Clarkson, who called it " masterful ".

Adolescence shows the aftermath of a teenage girl's stabbing, with a 13-year-old boy arrested for her murder.

Jamie, the suspect, is played by Owen Cooper, while Stephen Graham plays his father.

The story sheds light on the corrosive influence of social media and misogynistic influencers on some teenage boys.

Graham said he was inspired to make the show after seeing two separate reports of boys killing girls with knives.

"I just thought, what is happening in society where this is becoming a regular occurrence? " he told BBC's The One Show.

"I just couldn't understand it. So I wanted to take a look and try to shed light on this particular thing."

The central character was "indoctrinated by voices" like Andrew Tate's, Thorne told Radio 4's Front Row.

Mangan said its technical achievements are "matched by a series of award-worthy performances and a script that manages to be intensely naturalistic and extremely evocative at the same time."

She added: “ Adolescence is a deeply moving, deeply harrowing experience.”
