The chairman of the DP in Lezha, Gjin Gjoni, and the chairman of Mirdita, Aleksandër Lala, have resigned from their positions to become part of the Democratic Party primaries process.
Gjin Gjoni and Aleksandër Lala have left the seat empty, because resignation is a statutory obligation of the DP for all party leaders who want to be measured in the primaries.
It will be the DP leadership that is expected to command the new mayors in Lezha and Mirdita, who will have the weight of organizing the structures for the May 11 elections.
The leader of this political force, Sali Berisha, has been adamant as he stated that no branch leader who does not resign can become part of the primary process.
"This constitutes a statutory obligation, so that the DP branch and the voting are all equal with all candidates. No, a branch president who does not resign does not enter the primaries. This is clear, it is in the statute," Berisha previously stated.
