Youth demands resignation/ Rama: Protests, an attempt by domestic politics to capture the electorate

The protests that have been taking place in Tirana for days, with citizens and students demanding political changes and the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, have also been part of the discussion in the latter's statements. Rama described the protests as an attempt by domestic politics to gain electoral support, while also speaking about Albania's relations with the European Union and the enlargement process.
The Prime Minister told journalist Maria Tadeo that the issue of immigration is not a problem that can be eliminated simply by strengthening the borders, while according to him, in Albania it is used for political purposes of the day and to gain electoral support. Regarding the agreement with Italy, the head of government stated that it will continue to be in force as long as necessary, mentioning the year 2050 and Meloni's tenure at the head of the Italian government.
" It is an attempt to find a solution, to address an issue that will not disappear because the borders will be strengthened. This is being used for internal purposes of the politics of the day, which want to take pieces from the electorate (Protests in Tirana). I am not giving advice, because I do not watch Italian television. I expect the Italians to give me SMS. I will not give titles for my sister. The agreement with Italy will remain in force as long as necessary, until 2050, as long as she (Meloni) is prime minister ," Rama said.
The Prime Minister also spoke about the European integration process, emphasizing that membership in the European Union should be based on merit and not on gifts or shortcuts. However, he urged that candidate countries not be kept out of the European table during the enlargement process.
Using a family analogy, Rama said the EU should keep candidate countries close to it, citing Albania, Moldova and Ukraine. According to him, if these countries are left out, they could become closer to other influences, including Russia and China.
" I am convinced that the merit-based process should be. There should be no gifts or shortcuts, or flexibility. The EU should be able to spot and find the Helmut Kohl moment. So the EU should bring everyone around the table, people like in a family, like Ursula brings her seven children. Let's be around the table and then move on to the merit process ," Rama declared. He concluded this part of his speech with a message for countries aiming for membership, warning that leaving them outside the EU could push them towards other partnerships.
