Alonso leaves, Real Madrid officially has a new coach!

Real Madrid said goodbye to Xabi Alonso today, dismissing the Spaniard from the management of the first team after the defeat in the Spanish Super Cup against Barcelona. The results, especially the game that left much to be desired, made Alonso end his adventure with “los blancos” very quickly.

It seems that this solution had been thought of for a long time, as the club has not delayed in making public the name of the new coach of the team, as it has entrusted him to one of the people of the "house". Former Spanish defender Alvaro Arbeloa, has taken charge of the first team, leaving that of Castilla. For years he was part of the club as a coach, starting from the academy, to finish up to the second team and now also with the stars of the "galactics" where he himself was once part of a group that won everything.

Real Madrid announces that Alvaro Arbeloa is the new coach of the first team.

Alvaro Arbeloa has been the coach of Castilla since June 2025 and has spent his entire career as a coach at Real Madrid's youth academy since 2020. He managed the Infantil A team in the 2020–2021 season, winning the league title, the Cadete A team in 2021–2022 and the Juvenil A team from 2022 to 2025. As coach of Juvenil A, he achieved the treble in 2022–2023 (League, Copa del Rey and Champions League) and the League title in the 2024–2025 season.

As a player, Alvaro Arbeloa was part of Real Madrid during one of the most successful periods in their history. He wore the Real Madrid jersey between 2009 and 2016, making 238 official appearances. During that time, he won eight titles: two Champions Leagues, one Club World Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, one La Liga, two Copa del Reys and one Spanish Super Cup.

With the Spanish national team, Alvaro Arbeloa was also part of a historic era, winning the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and two European Championships (2008 and 2012). He played 56 matches for Spain.
