Betting scandal, son of Italian football legend mentioned in investigations

Another betting scandal is shaking up Italian football. This time, the name of Nicolo Pirlo, son of Italian legend Andrea Pirlo, has been mentioned in the investigative documents of the Milan Prosecutor's Office, in connection with an illegal betting network involving several famous footballers.
According to Italian media, Nicolo Pirlo is not under investigation, but his name comes up in a conversation between Fiorentina midfielder Nicolo Fagioli and referee Pietro Marinoni, both involved in this network and currently under investigation.
Fagioli was sentenced to a 7-month suspension in October last year for betting on football matches, while Marinoni has been temporarily suspended by the Referees' Association.
In the intercepted conversation, Fagioli says: “Pirlo (Nicolo) told me that he had entered those illegal platforms. He didn’t sleep at night, he bet on the NBA, on rebounds, and he always lost something.” Marinoni replies: “He’s one of ours.”
It is known that Andrea Pirlo had discovered his son's activity and had blocked his bank accounts until he turned 18. According to Fagioli, Nicolo had incurred a debt of 30 thousand euros by the age of 17.
Other well-known names such as Leandro Paredes, Ángel Di María and Junior Firpo, who are currently under investigation, are also involved in this betting network.
So far, there is no evidence that they have bet on football matches – something that would bring penalties from the Federation – but if their participation in this illegal network is proven, they risk criminal penalties.
Meanwhile, the Guardia di Finanza of Milan has previously seized 1.5 million euros from some of the suspects, including bookmakers and partners in businesses involved in this illegal activity, for the criminal offenses of illegal gambling, money laundering and administrative liability of the entities.
