SPAK's action causes debates in the Commission, Democratic MP: The state has fallen! Institutions are arresting each other in the office

The meeting of the Commission for the Supervision of Institutions has been engulfed in heated political debates following the latest developments with the security measure issued by SPAK for the head of the National Intelligence Service (SHISH). Democratic Party MP, Iv Kaso, and the chairman of the Commission from the ranks of the Socialist Party, Fatmir Xhafaj, have clashed their positions on the collapse of the state and the political responsibility of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Democratic MP Iv Kaso began his speech by calling for an immediate change to the parliamentary agenda, describing the event as one of the most serious blows to the Albanian state in recent decades.
"I do not believe that today's session of our committee, or any session of any public institution today, can begin in a normal manner, since an extraordinary event has occurred, I believe one of the most serious in these 36 years of transition and democracy. Today, the collapse of the Albanian state has been definitively confirmed and certified, " Kaso declared.
Further, Kaso emphasized that the situation where security institutions clash with each other shows that the highest state secrets have fallen into the hands of organized crime, due to the political decisions of the Prime Minister himself.
" Today, the unheard of has happened, when state institutions start arresting each other in the office, when the head of the State Intelligence Service is taken into custody... The opposition has denounced the unqualified appointment of this lady to head the country's security institutions, in a suspicious manner and at the personal will of the prime minister, who today must also bear responsibility ," he underlined, also demanding the resignation of senior officials and the holding of emergency hearings.
On the other hand, the chairman of the Commission, Fatmir Xhafaj, has rejected the opposition's claims of "collapse of the state", defending majority decision-making and presenting the action of the prosecution body as an indicator of democratic maturity.
" You talked about institutions, but in fact every institution has its own duty and its own responsibility. If criminal justice institutions have their constitutional and legal function of criminal prosecution, we do not have this here. We have our duty here as legislators ," Xhafaj replied.
Regarding the claims that institutions are attacking each other, Xhafaj stated that the actions of justice against certain individuals should not be viewed as attacks on the institutions themselves, but as the functioning of the rule of law.
"Regarding what institutions do, which you formulate as 'institutions arrest each other', institutions do not arrest. They arrest individuals. This is a sign of the maturity of democracy, a sign of the strengthening of the rule of law, a clear sign and indicator of the maturity of institutions, " he said.
To reinforce his position that the functioning of the investigation against senior officials is a natural process, Xhafaj compared the situation with Western partner countries:
"What we are seeing today is what usually happens in the normal world, in democratic countries, in countries where the rule of law operates. We see this in the champion country of democracy, the United States of America. Such phenomena are normal for a consolidated state, for a state of law ," concluded Xhafaj, expressing himself, however, as open to discussing any issue that falls within the sphere of parliamentary responsibility.
