England bench shakes, 5 players leave the squad

England have confirmed the withdrawal of five players from their squad for international matches during the September-October period.

The Nations League matches against Spain, Croatia and the two matches against the Czech Republic will be played without Tino Livramento, Kobbie Mainoo, Cole Palmer, Marcus Rashford and Declan Rice, who have officially confirmed their retirement from the national team.

All five players are believed to be dealing with various fitness issues. Palmer's absence was initially reported as "workload management", while Rashford's is being ruled out due to a persistent hip problem. Livramento, meanwhile, was injured during Newcastle United training on Friday.

Coach Thomas Tuchel has decided not to make many changes to the squad, despite losing five players. So far, only two substitutions have been made official.

Everton midfielder James Garner, who had already made his debut under Tuchel earlier this year, has joined the squad. He is joined by Nottingham Forest playmaker Morgan Gibbs-White, who many felt was unfairly left out of the starting line-up.

England will begin their post-World Cup journey on September 26, when reigning world champions Spain travel to Wembley for a Nations League match.
