The decision to shut down TikTok in Albania has sparked widespread reactions, dividing users into two camps. Some see it as a necessary measure, while others consider it an unnecessary restriction.
According to IT expert Denisa Kele, the problem is not the existence of TikTok itself, but the way it is used by society.
"Social media is simply a mirror of what we reflect as a society. And the whole basis is in the principle as a society, and we have to ask a very big question today: why does our society have so much hate, why is this hate then transmitted on a social media like TikTok?" Kele said [for Vizion Pus.
According to her, a more effective solution would be to impose restrictive filters instead of a complete ban.
"Of course, TikTok was highly risky because it didn't have filters like other social networks. But I definitely think that the Albanian government, if there was cooperation, could establish its own regulators and not completely censor it," Kele said.
Meanwhile, users are turning to alternative apps, including Clapper, which, according to the expert, can be even more dangerous. She advises avoiding using this app, as it, like TikTok, lacks filters and protection mechanisms.
