Fire near the Lushnje-Fier highway, flames approaching businesses in the area

A fire has engulfed dry vegetation in a canal near the driver's rest area on the Lushnje-Fier highway this afternoon.

Seeing that the fire, aided by strong winds, was advancing towards several businesses in the area, the Lushnja police and firefighters were notified.

The Lushnje municipality fire protection service and the traffic police rushed to the scene.

The intervention of firefighters has led to the fire being isolated and deemed to pose no risk to businesses adjacent to the fire.

This is one of those cases where the irresponsibility of starting a fire could prove fatal to nearby businesses.

According to firefighters, the fire was accidental and may have been caused by a cigarette thrown from a moving vehicle.
