50 dead in nightclub fire in North Macedonia

At least 50 people died late at night in the eastern North Macedonian city of Kocani as a result of a fire in a nightclub, Macedonian authorities told the MIA news agency.
The number of injured is unknown, but some of them have been transferred to clinics in Stip and Skopje.
Authorities have not yet said how the fire spread or what caused it.
According to local media, the fire was spread by pyrotechnics used during a performance by the Macedonian band DNA. The club was crowded at the time of the explosion and spread of the fire.
Local media reported that after the fire broke out, firefighters, ambulances, and police officers arrived at the scene.
This morning, many people were seen in front of the facility in Koçan, extremely worried about their family members, as they do not know if they are alive or dead.
"I'm looking for my niece. They're not letting us in and we don't know where she is. Her phone is working, but she's not answering. We were at the hospital in Kocani, in Stip, some people have taken her to Skopje. Maybe she's injured and can't answer. Someone needs to tell us urgently where to look," a woman told Radio Free Europe.
The Director of the Crisis Management Center, Stojanče Angelov, announced that he is in Kočani, together with the Minister of Defense, Pance Toshkovski, and the Director of the Public Security Bureau, Aleksandar Janev.
Authorities have said they will make a statement later in the day./REL
