France welcomes Russia's readiness for dialogue, Putin-Macron to sit down

The French presidency welcomed Moscow's willingness to hold talks with President Emmanuel Macron, signaling that further details would be determined in the coming days.

The Elysee Palace announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin's willingness to talk to Macron is "welcome" and that Paris will decide on the details "in the coming days," according to French broadcaster BFMTV.

The reaction came after Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russian news agency RIA late Saturday that Putin is ready to engage in dialogue with Macron.

Macron told reporters after the European Council meeting on Friday that it would "again be useful" for him and the Europeans to talk to Putin, in the wake of current US efforts to end the war between Moscow and Kiev.

"I think we, the Europeans and the Ukrainians, have an interest in finding a framework to return to these discussions in a proper way. Otherwise, we end up talking among ourselves, while other negotiators go off on their own to talk to the Russians, which is not optimal," Macron said.
